Why We Teach
OUR MAIN GOAL
Children are faced with a variety of challenges every day. We hope that through the training we provide, they will have developed the confidence and self-assurance to make the right choice. We teach that Martial Arts is NOT about fighting, but rather it is about developing a strong mind and body. With this, the student is more capable of making good decisions which will help them be good examples; providing opportunities to help others... not hurt them.

Martial Arts Classes for Kids in San Diego

The three 6-week sessions we offer after school throughout the year are designed to give an introduction to the benefits your child can develop through the practice of martial arts. They are convenient (right after school!), and low cost way to see if your child likes taking classes. The curriculum we use at the elementary school is designed with this in mind.

Lessons are taught in a non-aggressive manner and atmosphere. We are not teaching your children how "to fight!" nor are we teaching them martial arts moves just to advance them to "Black Belt Status" Rather, our goal in teaching your children martial arts is to get them to be more aware, focused, disciplined, and help them to develop confidence, self-control and physical fitness.

What We Teach
Our curriculum introduces children to three types of martial arts: Tai Chi, Tae Kwon Do, and Kung Fu. Each session, instructors teach new movements and forms from each of these martial arts.

While all three are separate and unique martial arts in and of themselves, we have found that through the practice of these three martial arts together, one can obtain a more balanced overall development. For example, if all you learn is Tae Kwon Doe, you will develop a lot of physical strength (especially in the lower body) very quickly, but be very limited on internal strength, moving with power in directions other than a straight line, etc...

A typical analogy we use to describe why we think someone can gain the benefits of training in combined martial arts is the experience that all of us have had attending school. School does not teach only one subject (style), such as only reading, or only math. It would be very difficult to advance very far without other skills learned in other subjects. We believe the same to be true with the martial arts. Each art (style) has its strengths and weaknesses. However, when taught together, you achieve a far greater balance and much more comprehensive and complete development of the body. It is not a perfect analogy, but we feel it does convey the importance of a broad exposure to many styles for "overall" development.
